On August 30, several union and student organizations called for a major day of national mobilization for Tuesday, October 5. The movement is inter-professional and should therefore affect several sectors, such as schools or transport.
It is an appointment that has been preparing for many weeks. The first meetings took place at the very beginning of the summer. On August 30, the CGT, FO, FSU, Solidaires unions and the student organizations Fidl, Unef, MNL and UNL launched a common call to a day of action this Tuesday, October 5. “They (signatory organizations) are opposed to the health situation being used by the government and employers to accelerate the questioning of the rights and achievements of employees and young people. ” Two weeks later, several civil service unions in turn launched a call for mobilization.
What claims
The first of the demands is the revaluation of wages. “Too many employees, especially workers who are particularly exposed and called “second line”, kept at low wages today see no prospect of improvement. Civil servants have been waiting for years for wage measures commensurate with the loss of their purchasing power.“, indicates the intersyndicale.
Another subject of mobilization, the reform of unemployment insurance, which entered into force this Friday, October 1, and against which several unions intend to file a new appeal this week before the Council of State.
If the subject is not yet directly on the table, the pension reform, put in the refrigerator during the health crisis, has been mentioned again for several weeks, by the President of the Republic from last July 12 and more recently by the Prime Minister. A prospect which arouses a frank hostility of a good number of unions.
Teachers absent this Tuesday, October 5?
Education is one of the sectors that could be impacted by this national and inter-professional day of action. The two majority unions, SNUipp-FSU (nursery and primary schools) and SNES-FSU (middle and high schools) support this initiative.
In nursery and primary schools, teachers must declare in advance, two working days before, their intention to strike. In theory, the parents of students therefore had to be warned at the end of last week. On the other hand, their secondary school colleagues are not subject to this obligation and can declare themselves strikers the same day.
Bus, tram, metro: how will it work?
The other major sector of activity that will be impacted this Tuesday, October 5 is that of public transport. In the Rouen metropolitan area, the Réseau Astuce announces disruptions on several lines: metro, TEOR and FAST are particularly concerned, as are “part of the school lines“.

A hard Tuesday for rail users?
At the SNCF, on the other hand, the disturbances began on Monday, October 4 (for a specific strike movement at the SNCF) and will continue on Tuesday, October 5. The detailed timetables of the Norman lines in circulation can be consulted on the TER website. This Monday, 2 out of 3 trains are running in the region.
