Hong Kong remains the most expensive city in the world, there, a coffee costs around 3.88 pounds sterling, or more than 4.50 euros, and a kilo of tomatoes costs 10 euros. “Gasoline is 2.64 euros per litre,” notes ECA International.
In the rest of the ranking, it is the city of New York (United States) which comes in second place, two places more than last year. The fault, according to ECA International, to the 12% increase in rents. It is for the same reason that London ranks 4th (20% increase in rents).
Geneva in Switzerland ranks 3rd, then we find Tokyo (5th), Tel Aviv (6th), Zurich (7th), Shanghai and Guangzhou in 8th and 9th positions and Seoul in South Korea completes the top 10. Taipei in Taiwan makes its entered the top 20.
Paris 11th most expensive city in Europe
ECA International also publishes the ranking of the most expensive cities in Europe. Paris is the 11th city with the highest cost of living on the old continent. It loses two places compared to last year. In the top 5 are present Geneva, London and Zurich. They are followed by Bern (Switzerland) and Copenhagen in Denmark. It is Reykjavik in Iceland which made the biggest leap in the rankings, going from 17th to 8th place.
