The faults that threaten Attica, at least those that have been activated in the past, are presented in a post by the well-known seismologist, Gerasimos Papadopoulos.
As he states, it is a question that is often asked, so “in the context of the Anti-Earthquake Information Campaign that we have been doing for years, I always answer with verified scientific data from the last 120 years or so”, he states.
“There are other active faults but we don’t have data on when they were activated in the past,” he concludes.

1. Oropos fault, earthquake 20-7-1938, many damages, many victims
2. Alkyonidon-Schinos-Kapareli faults, earthquakes of 24/2, 25/2 and 4/3 of 1981. Many damages and victims in the epicenter area, significant damages in Attica.
3. Rigma Phylis, Parnitha, earthquake 7-9-1999, many damages, many victims in the western suburbs of Athens.
There are other active faults but we have no data on when they were activated in the past.
