The Mandalorian says goodbye to Gina Carano. This is the result.
Lucasfilm has announced that actress Gina Carano will not be part of future Star Warsprojects. In addition, she was fired on the spot at The Mandalorian.
That will have a big impact, because Carano played the character Cara Dune in the series The Mandalorian. Her well-received character was supposed to return in the third season, and she would play in a series of her own. The story also goes that she would be featured in Rangers of the New Republic. But none of that continues.
What is going on?
Actress Carano has been quite discredited recently by a number of controversial messages she posted on social media. She made transphobic jokes, memes directed against corona masks and conspiracies surrounding the presidential elections in the United States.
Despite strong criticism, Carano continued to deliver bizarre messages. For example, she wrote that Jeffrey Epstein did not commit suicide and that the position of Jews during the Holocaust was the same as being a Republican in the United States at the moment. For Lucasfilm this was the last straw; they distanced themselves from the reports and fired the actress.
The consequences
That will also have consequences for the character. Cara Dune would have a big role in the future of Star Wars on Disney +. She was the main side character and was with Din Djarin at the end of the second season.
That means that The Mandalorian in the new season must focus on a story in which there is no place for Cara Dune. Well, there is an opportunity for that: the third season will be about Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze and the Darksaber. For example, one could indicate that Cara Dune is back on Nevarro, and then never return to that planet.
But it also means that other parts of the franchise have to be adjusted. Cara Dune was a key player in the future battle against Grand Admiral Thrawn, which the franchise is working towards.
