The author of this project is the representative to the Chamber of Commerce Daniel Carvalho Mejia whose main objective is young people. This system aims to encourage greater road responsibility among drivers; the accumulation of penalty points could lead to the cancellation or temporary suspension of the driving license, depending on the severity and recurrence of the infractions committed.

It seeks to generate a culture of compliance with traffic rules contributing to safety on the roads and reducing the number of incidents and victims caused by reckless driving.

The implementation of this measure would include a clear and transparent process for assigning and tracking points, in addition to pedagogical campaigns to inform drivers about its operation and the consequences of saying the regulations.

With this strategy, it is expected to positively impact road behavior and promote a safer environment for all road users.

What would be the objective of the project?

According to the published project, this is its objective: “The purpose of this law is to guarantee the right to life, personal integrity and health of individuals in the transit and land transportation system through road safety under the approach of Safe System, giving priority to young people between 18 and 28 years old who are processing for the first time a driving license, gradually regulating the process of sanctioning points and gradual driving licensing for new drivers”.

The process to obtain or renew a driving license in Colombia will follow a licensing system that establishes requirements specific according to the type of vehicle (two, three or four wheels, private or public service).
