New York is the city of skyscrapers par excellence! There are more than 6,400 buildings. Here is the ranking of the 10 tallest buildings in New York.

1er : One World Trade Center, 541 mètres
- The One World Trade Center tower stands out as New York’s tallest skyscraper, standing 541 meters high at the top of its antenna. This building was inaugurated in 2014 and it succeeds the twin towers of the World Trade Center, destroyed during the attacks of September 11, 2001.
- Good news: you can climb to the top of the One World Trade Center tower. An observatory, the One World Observatory, awaits you from the 100th to 102nd floors. You can then admire all of New York at 382 meters high!
2nd: Central Park Tower, 472 meters
- The Central Park Tower is a giant tower currently under construction in the Midtown district, a stone’s throw from Central Park. But the tower is already entering the ranking since it reached its final height in August 2019.
- The building will be inaugurated in 2020. Unfortunately, you will not be able to visit it: the Central Park Tower will only house luxury apartments and no observatory.
3rd: Empire State Building, 443 meters
- New York’s most iconic building takes 3rd place among New York’s tallest skyscrapers. However, admiring the New York skyline, you will have the impression that the Empire State Building is much smaller than the new buildings in Midtown. This is not an illusion: the 443 meters are measured at the top of the antenna. However, the height of the roof of the Empire State Building only rises to 381 meters.
- The Empire State Building is home to one of New York’s most visited observatories, on the 86th floor. A visit that I warmly recommend!
4th: 111 West 57th Street, 435 meters
- The 111 West 57th Street Tower is simply named after its address in Midtown. This slender tower prides itself on being the tower with the lowest ratio between height and width. In other words, there isn’t such a narrow and tall tower in the world!
- This building is made up of 46 luxury apartments. The prices are staggering: from $ 18 million to $ 57 million for the top floor.
5th: One Vanderbilt, 427 meters
- The One Vanderbilt tower is the latest tower: it was completed in 2020! It rises right next to Grand Central Terminal station on 42nd Street. A hell of a contrast in style! The building stands out as the tallest office building in the Midtown district, 16 feet shorter than the Empire State Building.
- The One Vanderbilt was designed by the New York architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. The skyscraper houses 58 floors of offices, including several floors dedicated to the Canadian bank TD Bank.
- The tower also houses an observatory, which will open in fall 2021. More information on the ticket booking page for One Vanderbilt The Summit.
6th: 432 Park, 425 meters
- Inaugurated in 2015, this giant tower is the work of Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly. The tower is named after its address, a short walk from Central Park.
- Like Central Park Tower and 111 West 57th Street, 432 Park Tower is a residential building. Impossible to enter.
7th: 30 Hudson Yards, 395 meters
- 30 Hudson Yards Tower is the tallest building in the new Hudson Yards neighborhood, west of Midtown, along the Hudson River. A district that I invite you to absolutely visit, especially to climb to the top of the Vessel, a structure halfway between sculpture and the observatory.
- Good news: the tower has been open to the public since March 2020. It actually hosts a new observatory at its top, called The Edge. You can book your tickets now by going to The Edge Observatory Ticket Booking page.
8th: 3 World Trade Center, 383 meters
- The 7th position in this ranking is occupied by another tower of the new World Trade Center complex, tower n ° 3. The building was designed by the famous British architect Richard Rogers, author of the Lloyd’s building in the City of London.
- Small detail: the roof of the tower rises to nearly 329 meters and it is therefore the antennas that allow it to rise to 383 meters high. You will have a bird’s eye view of 3 WTC from the One World Observatory.
9ème : Bank of America Tower, 365 mètres
- The Bank of America Tower does not go unnoticed from the Top of the Rock Observatory: it is the one that overlooks Times Square. The skyscraper rises at the northwest corner of Bryant Park.
- As its name suggests, the building belongs to the American bank Bank of America. Impossible to visit, unless you are a very, very good customer of the bank!
10th: 53W53, 320 meters
- Tower 53W53 also takes its address as its name: the building is actually located at 53 West 53rd Street, in the heart of Midtown. The skyscraper is in fact directly attached to the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA.
- The building was designed by the famous French architect Jean Nouvel, author of the Quai Branly museum and the Arab World Institute in Paris or the Agbar Tower in Barcelona. The tower houses 139 luxury apartments, at prices just as dizzying as the tower!
And the 11th: Chrysler Building, 319 meters
- Impossible for me not to mention the 11th in the standings. The 11th place indeed goes to my darling, another emblematic building of New York, the Chrysler Building.
- Even if it is largely overtaken by the new towers, this skyscraper will nonetheless remain one of the most beautiful in New York, with an inimitable Art Deco architecture. Do not hesitate to take a look in: see my article on the interior of the Chrysler Building.
