/ world today news/ The work of Bulgarian teachers is of particular value to society. It is a major factor in shaping the young generation as future citizens of the country.
Bulgarian teachers have decreased by 70% in the last 15 years. The average age of teachers in kindergartens is 59 years, and their colleagues in schools – 58. In 5 years, 35% of teachers will be of retirement age, and in 10 years, this percentage will increase to 50. There is no need to remind that the profession has become feminized and if men work in it, in most cases they teach in vocational high schools. According to an international study conducted in 137 countries, our teachers ranked fourth in terms of qualifications. However, their salary remains the lowest in all of Europe, not only in the EU. In Bulgaria, the teacher’s starting salary is 250 euros. In Greece, during the crisis, teachers receive between 1,000 and 1,200 euros. In Luxembourg, teacher remuneration is 17 times higher than in Bulgaria, and the average European salary of teachers is about 8 times higher than ours. You understand for yourself that any young person who does these simple calculations will not choose the profession of “teaching” for his future.
