In Dijon (Côte-d’Or), as the first half of the Easter holidays are coming to an end, several holidaymakers have shared their tips for having fun at a lower cost.
For Pierrick, met at the Parc de la Colombière, there is no need to travel hundreds of kilometers to get to his vacation spot.
“My journeys are short journeys“, he confides. “That way, it’s already cheaper for gasoline, and then that way the children don’t find it too long.“

Monique, 67, is also ingenious in order to save money on trips. “You have to take gas off the highway !“, she asserts. “And then, we can carpool for example, go with the family.“
Maryline, a 40-year-old from Bison, takes advantage of her vacation to visit her family in the Dijon metropolis. “I am at my parents’ house. We come from Besançon, we came to spend a few days with the family.“
Another solution for those who cannot go to their loved ones: the motorhome. Joël has been traveling using this type of vehicle for a few years. Last stop to date: Lac des Settons, in the Nièvre.
“In a motorhome, you are not in a mobile home, you are not in a house, so it is much cheaper“, he judges. “And then you have freedom, you are in the open air!“

According to Pauline, there is no need to spend thousands and cents to have fun during her holidays. This 34-year-old Dijonnaise thus recommends outings in nature. “There are quite a few educational farms in the area. You can go to the edge of the lake, observe nature, walk in the forest… Make short walks fun!“
“We enjoy having parks like this [de la Colombière] to come for a walk, to see animals and nature, without it costing us a lot of money“, approves Maryline.

Same observation for Pierrick, who highlights the possibility “to do several activities” in the parks. Without however refusing to practice paid activities such as “of the’tree climbing“.
“We eat at home, or we have a few picnics“, says Pierrick, obviously accustomed to the D system.
Catherine also advocates homemade meals. “I make mixed salads, or I prepare my own sandwiches. I think they are better that way“, laughs this 67-year-old Dijonnaise.

In 2021, 37 million French people went on vacation during the summer. An increase of 8% compared to the previous year, during which tourism professionals had been heavily impacted by the health crisis. It remains to be seen whether 2022 will once again be a good year for the sector.
