Bezos, 57, is stepping down as CEO of Amazon on Monday. He will remain executive chairman and largest shareholder of the company, but his Instagram account shows that he has many other interests to occupy his time.
The sci-fi fan is planning a ride into suborbital space with his best friend and brother, Mark Bezos, this month, according to a recent article. In another, Bezos is behind the wheel of an electric van built by Rivian, an Amazon-funded startup, driving through the desert in a cowboy hat to see a rocket capsule land.
The Last Frontier has long attracted Bezos, who poured billions of dollars into his business Blue Origin promote tourism and infrastructure in space. The company’s first crewed flight is scheduled to depart on July 20, less than two weeks after Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic to begin a new era of travel beyond Earth.
Bezos leaves former head of Amazon cloud computing Andy Jassy to run a business that’s bigger and more valuable than ever. It’s unclear how Bezos will rule on the sidelines.
Bezos, a hedge fund executive turned garage entrepreneur, has long defined Amazon culture, through business adages such as “customer obsession” and “having a backbone; disagree and engage ”, as well as brief emails to his team with just a question mark.
Neither Amazon nor Bezos responded to a request for comment.
Bezos said in an April letter to investors that he would focus on new initiatives as executive chairman and make Amazon a better place to work. This follows employee frustration that surfaced during a failed Alabama organizing drive.
Her Instagram, however, highlights her interest in Tinsel Town. Bezos has posted articles on Oscar nods and Golden Globe wins for Amazon Studios, and during his last annual meeting as CEO, he spoke about reimagining screen heroes for the 21st century through Amazon’s agreement to buy MGM.

Bezos also met with government officials to draw attention to his philanthropy. He discussed his climate efforts with French President Emmanuel Macron and gave Washington Governor Jay Inslee a tour of a homeless shelter, according to his publications.
He also had fun with music stars Katy Perry, Lil Nas X and Lizzo. He’s posted since the Super Bowl in 2020, “Just had a DNA test, it turns out I’m 100% @lizzobeeating’s biggest fan.”
