What alternatives are there? – El Financiero

Leave home in time! This Wednesday, August 7, the blockade continues on the Mexico-Puebla highway, at kilometer 70, where residents of Santa Rita Tlahuapan are demanding compensation for the lands that were expropriated from them for the construction of this road.

Twenty-four hours after the blockade started by the protesters, the demonstration continues despite the dialogue established with the authorities, since the farmers have indicated that they will not release the road until they have signed the dates of payment of the money owed to them.

Furthermore, the protesters stressed that they have been very patient with the issue and the Government has only made promises to delay the resolution, without achieving anything. They even accused that in the first half of July they were promised to resolve the problem when they had also closed the road; however, to date they continue with the same problem.

For this reason, vehicular traffic on the Mexico-Puebla highway is completely blocked in both directions.

Blockade on the Mexico-Puebla highway: What are the alternatives to get to CDMX?

Due to the blockages on the Mexico-Puebla highway, the Siglo XXI highway remains as an alternate route. In addition, people heading from Puebla to Mexico City must take the road towards Atlixco until Jantetelco and then take the first road mentioned, passing through Cuautla de Morelos, Tepoztlán and Tres Marías, to join the Cuernavaca-CDMX highway, from there the road leads directly to the southeast entrance of the country’s capital.

Another route to get to Mexico City from Puebla is to take the road that starts from the Central de Abastos, along the short route to Santa Ana Chiautempan. Another alternative is federal highway 121, which crosses part of Tlaxcala. It was even the route taken to get to Hidalgo and Mexico City from the Puebla municipality, before the creation of the Arco Norte.

What did AMLO say about the blockades on the Mexico-Puebla highway?

At a press conference, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked today “not to be fooled,” after accusing a lawyer of organizing roadblocks.

“Do not let yourselves be manipulated or deceived by this lawyer who is going to take personal advantage, and perhaps he is thinking that since my government is about to end, now is the time. No, because we will not let ourselves be blackmailed by anyone, just let the peasants know that they will not be repressed, we are not repressors, they can stay there all the time,” he added.
