From before, there have been 14 municipal electric car chargers at the back of the town hall – and none of these have been of the rapid charger type.
This has caused reactions in the island municipality, and earlier this year Fredriksstad Blad was able to report that Frank Alme (69), also known as “Taxi-Frank”, replaced the electric taxi with one that ran on diesel.
– It has been a great car to drive and good in every way, but I can’t run a business without a fast charger at Hvaler, Alme said in the previous interview.
Now the charging station company, Kople, has ensured that the Hvaler people also have the long-awaited access to more powerful chargers.
Lightning and fast chargers
– It is Kople that operates the chargers in Hvaler municipality, and we do so through a framework agreement that Viken county municipality has entered into, explains Tine Holm-Hansen, marketing and communications manager in Kople.
On 14 July, the first charger from Kople was ready for use in the car parks at the town hall. This type of lightning charger.
On such a charger, you have two charging places.
– Those chargers are already very popular. We are not yet completely finished with the facility. When it is ready, there will be a total of four charging points here, writes Holm-Hansen.
– The final finishing touches to the charging point are done as soon as possible, when the fitter is back from holiday. Then the fast charger will also become operational as soon as possible, she continues.
Furthermore, she emphasizes that they prioritized getting the lightning charger up and running before they were completely finished with the entire charging point, so that the Hvaler people had an extra charging opportunity throughout the summer.
Color codes
– We color code our chargers, so that electric motorists can easily see which charger suits their charging needs when they enter the charging point. The yellow charger here is a lightning charger, which provides up to 180kW of power, continues the communications manager.
– The green charger is a fast charger, which can provide up to 75kW of power. Here there is also a chademo contact, which can charge at a maximum of 62.5 kW power, she says.
In other words, the lightning chargers will charge significantly faster than the normal fast chargers.
Few lightning chargers in Nedre Glomma

– We are constantly working to expand our charging network, and are certainly open to creating more charging opportunities in the Fredrikstad district, says Holm-Hansen.
– Kople will build over 400 fast and lightning chargers in the next two years. At the same time, we are working on creating charging offers at destinations and hotels, so that electric drivers can charge where they still stop to experience something else, she concludes.
