Mr. Fuma Yamane, an individual developer, said on April 2nd, “Whale Fall]and announced that it will be released in the summer of 2023. Supported platforms are PC (Steam/Epic Games store).
“Whale Fall” will be a game in which you will travel as a marine creature. It is said that it can control shoals of fish and giant whales, and it is said that it can swim as various marine creatures in the sometimes beautiful and sometimes terrifying ocean. Other gameplay is largely veiled at this point. The game is being developed with Unreal Engine 5. The graceful under-sea surface and eerie deep-sea conditions are expressed with rich graphics. The way the light hits the bodies of the marine creatures is also impressive. In addition, it seems that this work will be a game where you can experience the cycle of life, and you can expect content that allows you to experience the food chain by manipulating creatures such as small fish, octopus, rays and whales.
This work is being developed mainly by Fuma Yamane, a graduate student at Tokyo University of the Arts (hereafter referred to as Tokyo University of the Arts). He is in charge of the director of this work, and is working on modeling, animation, and programming. Satoki Kitai and Akio Yokozawa, who belong to the music department of the same university, are in charge of the music, and Michitomo Matsumura of the same department is in charge of the sound.
In addition, the trailer of this work has attracted a lot of attention on SNS, and Mr. Yamane’s tweet mentioned above has collected more than 3000 shares. Takashi Tokita, a game creator known for “Live A Live”, is in charge of mentoring Mr. Yamane at the graduate school of Tokyo University of the Arts. About this work, he describes it as a work that allows you to experience the cycle of life in the majestic sea.
