WFP, the winter in Gaza will be worse than the previous one for civilians

(ANSA) – ROME, NOV 26 – “The winter approaching Gaza promises to be much worse on the humanitarian front for civilians compared to the previous one. In 2023 more families lived in narrow shared spaces, but at least they had a home, today instead we must face the fact that over a million people live on a beach in a tent city with a dramatic health and water emergency that increases the risks of an epidemic even more.” This is the alarm raised by Carl Skau, deputy executive director of the World Food Program in a Med Dialogue panel dedicated to humanitarian assistance in danger. “In the last six weeks the situation has worsened in the north of the Strip”, he added regarding the military escalation between the IDF and Hamas which makes it necessary to transfer civilians to “safe areas”. And if there has been progress in the flow of convoys which has reduced the rate of food insecurity, for Skau it is necessary to guarantee safe and lasting access through the crossings. In its latest report in October, WFP also warned of famine as winter sets in unless the fighting stops and more humanitarian aid reaches families. And it is precisely in the northern part of the Strip that the worst scenario is evoked. (HANDLE).
