/ world today news/ According to the president of the WFO (World Farmers’ Organization), the first income data for 2015 confirm that the market has not yet recovered from the impact of the Russian embargo on food imports from the EU.
The agriculture of the EU countries continues to suffer economic losses in connection with the Russian embargo on food imports from the EU, and the assistance of the EC in this matter is insufficient, the president of the World Farmers’ Organization (WFO) Evelina Nguleka told the Sputnik agency. . This is reported by RIA Novosti.
“EU agricultural production is as before suffering from the Russian import ban. The impact is particularly large in the dairy sector and pig production. The first income data for 2015 confirm that the market has not yet recovered from this blow,” said WFO President Nguleka. According to her, the European Commission’s additional fund to support farmers in the amount of 560 million dollars “will not play a big role, because more help is required for EU dairy and meat production”, and the available funding came late – a year after – late.
Nguleka also called on EU and Russian authorities to agree on a mutual lifting of sanctions.
Russia in August 2014 restricted the import of food products from the countries that imposed sanctions against it: the USA, EU member states, Canada, Australia and Norway. Under the ban came: meat, sausages, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruit, dairy products. In June 2015, in response to the expansion of sanctions, Russia extended the embargo for a year.
