Weyhe Falls Short Against Top Contenders

SC Weyhe ended the year in the Badminton Weser League with a defeat. The promoted team lost 7-1 to league leaders SG PSV/BTS Neustadt II. The result sounds clearer than it really was. With a little more luck and cleverness, the guests could have scored 4-4.

“PSV has a young team that needs to be trained and developed intensively. They were already warned about us,” said SCW team leader Lothar Kattner, looking at a well-positioned home team. The only Weyher point was scored by the double Malte Landowski/Ralf Preuß, who showed strong nerves in the decisive round and were able to hold their own with 23:21. In the individual match, Landowski unfortunately lost out to Jonah Schröder with 19:21 in the fifth round. Preuß and Marc Kosten also suffered close defeats, giving up a comfortable lead in both sets. Meanwhile, the Weyher ladies Kim Feldmann and Sabine Gutsmann, who have not yet found their way back to their old form, had no chance.

Despite this defeat, Kattner had a positive assessment of the first half of the season: “We are happy, but we also know that the start of the second half of the season will be difficult.” The season in the Badminton Weser League will continue in mid-January. “We want to reach at least sixth place, fifth place would be better,” says Kattner, adding that three of the eight teams could possibly even be relegated.
