In Dunakeszin, despite the gloomy and cold weather, the nationalistic population of the city pinned the red-white-green cockade above their hearts and commemorated our national holiday in a worthy way.
Many of us gathered at the city event. Offices, institutions, schools and many private individuals represented themselves, of course we included mayor Csaba Dióssi, deputy mayors Zoltán Erdész, Dávid Sipos and Márton Nyíri and many representatives. The atmosphere of the ceremony was enhanced by the members of the Historical Order of Valor, who, in addition to the flags, also set up a soul bell, which they rang at suitable moments, including when laying wreaths in front of the memorial.
The program began with a recital by Vilmos Guttmann, the city’s awardee. In the introduction, our speaker emphasized that Mihály Babits is anti-war and calls for peace Before Easter c. he wants to recite his poem in honor and memory of the freedom fighters of 1848 and the Hungarian heroes who suffered and fell in the Russo-Ukrainian war! The poem, which was recited with real experience, contained timely lessons in many respects even in today’s conditions, which the audience greeted with huge applause.
The serious thoughts were turned into a more cheerful atmosphere by a cheerful folk dance performance. The young people of the three age groups of the Kőrösi Dance Group gave a taste of our national dances and songs, which also revived our former folk costumes. The children presented Martos, Magyarbődi and Felcsiki dances, which were taught by artistic director Zoltán Tóth.
Before the wreath-laying, there were four members of the Bárdos School Drama Circle, who presented the ideas and lessons of our freedom struggle with artistic tools.
We could hear the festive speech from Deputy Mayor Márton Nyíri, who understandably referred to the current war conditions several times while analyzing our revolution of 1848 and the results of our freedom struggle that followed. Our independence was lost for a while in the grip of the great powers united against us, but many of its achievements still contribute to the self-confidence and rise of our nation.
