The Wettesingen trombone choir celebrated its 75th birthday over the weekend with a concert on Saturday (October 28, 2023) and a church service on Sunday.

Wettesingen – The trombone choir led by Ines Jahn thrilled the audience in the Protestant church in Wettesingen with film music and pop songs from the past decades, from Abba to Star Wars. After the concert there was a small reception with a buffet in the House of Encounter. Mayor Jens Wiegand, mayor Friedbert Kanne and representatives of local associations and the church presented words of thanks and gifts.

Trombone choirs were once used as mobile all-weather organs

Sunday was all about the festive service with Pastor Monika Vöcking. She said trombone choirs were once used as mobile all-weather organs and were closely associated with Luther and the Protestant faith. In her sermon she addressed the question of the evangelical profile, which is strongly influenced by the participation of the trumpet choirs in church services and tent missions. Finally, the congregation, accompanied by the trumpet choir, sang Luther’s song “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”.

Church music director Andreas Jahn led the Wettesinger trombone choir during the service, which was supported by members of the trombone choirs from the Wolfhager Land. He thanked everyone involved and helpers for the gifts, the buffet, the decorations and, above all, for the wonderful community.

The trombone choir with its 21 members has grown beyond itself musically over the past year and has practiced diligently, which was noticeable at the concert, said Andreas Jahn. The youth work is also exemplary because the children, including his own, feel comfortable and he is happy and proud to be part of the trombone choir, he added. As a small recognition, Andreas Jahn and Henrik Giehler presented certificates and badges of honor to some members of the Wettesinger Trombone Choir at the end. After the festive service, everyone was able to fortify themselves at the buffet in the House of Encounter. (Ursula Neubauer)
