When, after a ten-year hiatus, the comeback of “Wetten, dass..?” attracted more than 14 million viewers on television, it was clear there had to be another show. After almost exactly one year, Thomas Gottschalk returned to ZDF last night as showmaster, with Michelle Hunziker all in pink at his side. The 45-year-old sprayed kisses and hearts in the air in the usual way. Meanwhile, Gottschalk was also somewhat overshadowed by the happy Hunziker. And the usual fireworks of Gottschalk’s snappy sayings were a little smaller in this edition.
The start was unusual for the audience. A bagger bet is allowed in “Wetten, dass ..?” almost traditionally there is no shortage. It usually forms the climax at the end. Gottschalk presented it to the public as the first bet in the room, surprising many fans. Director Michael “Bully” Herbig and actor Christoph Maria Herbst bet against the excavator driver and later had to can-can dance.
But singer Herbert Grönemeyer provided a special moment. The 66-year-old won his bet, but still wants to redeem his stake. He announced that he would take over the running and maintenance costs of the Berliner Tafel for one month.
