The Parliament approved the agreement between the governments of Bulgaria and the USA. It is for a project to build 2 blocks at the Kozloduy NPP site. The construction will be done by the American “Westinghouse”.
In February, Bulgaria and the USA signed the nuclear partnership agreement, including the project to build two new energy units at the Kozloduy NPP.
On the Bulgarian side, the contract was signed by the Minister of Energy, now retired, Rumen Radev, and on the American side, by Andrew Light, who is an assistant secretary in the US Department of Energy.
Radev then said that the cost of electricity from the future VII and VIII of the Kozloduy NPP will not exceed 65 euros per megawatt hour, and the construction of the new capacities is expected to cost up to 14 billion euros in total.
Exactly how much the two NPP units will cost should become clear at the end of March from the report that will be prepared by the American company Westinghouse, with whose reactors the future capacities will operate.
“We look at units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy NPP as a state project with our state participation, with self-participation in the range of 25-30% and with loan financing, part of which we are ready to secure with the relevant state guarantees Radev said then.
