Western star James Drury is dead

Hollywood / Houston (Texas). The American actor James Drury, best known for the role of the cowboy Virginian in the western series “The People of the Shiloh Ranch”, is dead. According to his assistant Karen Lindsey, he died on Monday in Houston, Texas, like the US -Industry newspaper “Hollywood Reporter” reports. He was 85 years old.

Born in New York, he came to Hollywood in the 1950s, where he appeared in films such as “The Seed of Violence”, “Alarm in Space” and “Powdered Vapor and Hot Songs”, the first feature film with Elvis Presley.

In 1962 he received a leading role in the western series “The People from the Shiloh Ranch” (English title “The Virginian”). Until 1971, Drury played the taciturn cowboy on the fictional Shiloh Ranch in the US state of Wyoming in the 1890s in all nine seasons, who only bears the name ‘The Virginian’. With “Rauchende Colts” and “Bonanza”, the cult series was one of the most durable western series in the USA.
