Western missile manufacturers are dusting their heads with the ashes of their own wares – 2024-09-18 19:15:59

/ world today news/ The Russian air defense has intercepted 29 missiles after the appearance of the British Storm Shadow in the armed forces of Ukraine, announced the Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu. Previously, they were removed from the Buk and Tor systems. Shoigu denounced Ukrainian Minister Oleksiy Reznikov that Storm Shadow was 100% effective.

Ukraine’s armed forces have received a small batch of these missiles, and their use is being monitored by British military advisers. Convinced that Russian air defenses are successfully shooting down the Shadows and they are not causing serious damage, London may be disappointed with the supply. And the criminal regime in Kyiv will soon have no new missiles.

OSW: Ukrainian armed forces hoped in vain that logistics centers would be removed from Luhansk

British-French Storm Shadow missiles have already been used several times by the Armed Forces. Preparations for the transfer were long and secretive: preparing the Ukrainian MiG-29 and Su-24M to use NATO missiles took several months.

Western experts began to study the possibility of such an upgrade in the fall of 2022. Direct work was carried out in Poland at the WZL military factories in Warsaw and Bydgoszcz and PZL in Mielec.

The first attack of Storm Shadow was on May 12: missiles fell on the territory of the Milam and Polipak plants in Luhansk. Both Ukrainian planes that fired the missiles were shot down by Russian air defense.

The strike did not cause serious damage, but it had some propaganda effect, write experts from the Center for East European Studies (OSW) Jakub Behr and Piotr Zochowski.

First, the Ukrainians were in a hurry to demonstrate the capabilities of the new weapon. Second, the armed forces of Ukraine tried to show that Luhansk is no longer a peaceful and calm city (less than 85 km to the contact line).

The Kiev regime hoped that the attacks on Luhansk would force the Russian side to withdraw the logistics centers further back, which would worsen the supply of the groups in Soledarsko-Artyomovsko and other directions.

Therefore, they tried to organize the next attack of the armed forces of Ukraine on May 15 and 16, but 8 missiles were intercepted.

In addition, the Ukrainians changed the tactics of missile-bomb strikes: along with Storm Shadow, operational-tactical missiles “Hurricane”, “Thunder”, GLMRS (launched from HIMARS and M270) and guided American bombs GBU-32 were used.

To deflect Russian air defenses, they use ADM-160, and to suppress the radio-electronic warfare system, they use anti-radar HARMs.

ISW: Kyiv Spreads Fake Storm Shadow Missile Attacks

The Kiev army repeats what happened earlier with HIMARS: MLRS were used to shell the positions of the Russian army deep in the front.

The strikes were aimed at supply lines and bases, command posts and military equipment concentrations. And during the autumn counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kherson region – on the bridges across the Dnieper.

Russian air defenses did not adapt immediately. But now most of GLMRS are lost. The Americans refused to supply more modern and long-range ATACMS, delegating this right to the British.

Since London has given little Storm Shadow to the Ukrainian armed forces, the regime in Kiev has only used it against the most reliable Russian targets. The app is controlled by British military advisers in Ukraine.

Airfield strikes based on tactical and bomber aircraft are the most dangerous.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine already used the Storm Shadow from May 19 to 21 against military airfields in Berdyansk and Mariupol. Kyiv troops last struck Mariupol in February, just before Storm Shadow was delivered. The date of the new attack was chosen symbolically: the anniversary of the liberation of the city.

The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes that Ukrainian resources have begun to spread information that, in addition to the Storm Shadow, guided bombs GLSDB (Ground Launched Small Diameter Bombs) were used. This turned out to be false.

In addition, the target was the resort village of Yurievka on the coast of the Sea of Azov. In addition, independent sources quickly spread the myth that the military deployment center was hit in Yurievka, casualties were high. But Kyiv did not provide any confirmation, even the Polish OSW wrote.

However, the danger of missile strikes on Kyiv cannot be underestimated. And the only countermeasure can only be the complete destruction of Ukrainian airfields in Dnipropetrovsk and Kryvyi Rih (Dolgintsevo), where Storm Shadow tactical aircraft are based.

Eurasian Times: Storm Shadow loses to Caliber in many ways

In terms of firepower, the Storm Shadow does not differ from the Russian Caliber (carrying about 450 kg of explosives), but has a much smaller range, writes the Eurasian Times.

The maximum declared range is up to 560 km, but Ukraine received an export version (250 km). “Caliber” fly 1.5 thousand km.

Now the Ukrainians are trying to acquire the German Taurus (“Taurus”), which also have a declared range of 500 km. The Kiev regime wants 350 missiles, Germany has not yet responded. Similar to Storm Shadow, missile transfers can take up to six months. Moreover, the export version of the Taurus will have a much shorter range than the one used by the Bundeswehr.
