yes, but the question is how long can a normal hdd last compared to a hdd made for a nasand not every hdd works with other hdds,
also vibration sensors are not applicable to normal hdds,
normal hdds are not suitable for 24/7 use,
other you know say why they don’t use ordinary hdds in the enterprise world,

In my old DS211j I had at least +10j intensively two WD Greens of 2TB, not really drives of impeccable behavior.
(I wasn’t the only one btw)there are not necessarily vibration sensors, but the read/write head suffers from vibration, every HDD eventually has that to a greater or lesser extent
normal hdds -> see my comment about the NAS, more than ten years, minimal sleep due to server tasks

That too is just done… I’ve even seen backup solutions where they swapped standard 2.5″ USB drives every day.
In fact, there is very little difference (in cost) for an enterprise vs desktop HDD
Nowadays, if you open an external housing, there is often a WDred in it too
Seagate also does this, two 6TB enclosures had Seagate Skyhawk HDDs in them (usually especially for video systems).–
