It was previously known that Western Digital experienced an attack at the end of March, which closed access to My Cloud and, accordingly, user data for about 10 days. Previously, Western Digital was silent about the consequences of the attack, but now it has been announced that the worst that we can expect has happened.
User information, including names, residential and shipping addresses, phone numbers and other data that was not encrypted, was reported stolen from Western Digital. Also stolen data, allegedly encrypted – passwords, payment card data.
Western Digital has confirmed that it will be contacting users whose sensitive data has been stolen. It has also been announced that Western Digital is still working on collecting data about the attack.
