West Side Story – Off to New York

New York will be on Lake Neusiedl in summer 2021! With the sweeping global success “West Side Story”, one of the great musical classics can be experienced for the first time on the Mörbisch lake stage.

The gripping plot about two rival gangs and the great Romeo and Juliet love story between Tony and Maria together with Leonard Bernstein’s fantastic songs (“Maria”, “Tonight”, “Somewhere”, “I feel pretty” or “Mambo”) will also take the Mörbisch audience by storm.

The singing is in English, the dialogues are in German. With Werner Sobotka an extremely experienced musical director has been won. The set is designed by Walter Vogelweider.

“Karin Fritz (costumes), Guido Mancusi (musical director) and Jonathan Huor (choreography) complete the leading team,” says Artistic Director Peter Edelmann, giving an insight into the production.

“We’re putting New York on the floating stage! Right up to the Statue of Liberty, there will be everything you could wish for when you see Manhattan, ”Werner Sobotka and Walter Vogelweider agree.

The West Side Story has long been on the wish list of the Mörbisch Seefestspiele. Not only because the world premiere took place in 1957, that is, in the year when the Seefestspiele were founded, but also to attract young audiences to Mörbisch.
