Online talks between NATO leaders and EU leaders took place

The international community should not tolerate any actions by Moscow that would undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty, NATO leaders said.

In the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, NATO member states will impose an “unprecedented” package of sanctions against Moscow. This is stated in a statement by the press service of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, released on the night of Tuesday, January 25.

As indicated, such a decision was made by the leaders of Britain, the United States, Italy, Poland, France, Germany, as well as the leadership of the European Union and NATO following an online meeting.

“The leaders agreed that if there was a further Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Allies must retaliate promptly with punitive measures, including an unprecedented package of sanctions. They decided to continue to closely coordinate any such response,” the statement said.

At the same time, the negotiators noted the likely humanitarian consequences of any Russian aggression and agreed that such a scenario should be avoided.

The leaders stressed that diplomatic negotiations with Russia remain a top priority and welcomed the negotiations that have already taken place between Russia and NATO countries.

Finally, the parties agreed that the international community should not tolerate any actions by the Kremlin that would undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The talks were attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Polish President Andrzej Duda, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and American leader Joe Biden.

Recall, on the eve of the United States, Britain, Australia and Germany began to evacuate their diplomats from Ukraine. At the same time, Ukrainian authorities assurethat there is no reason to panic.
