In the West Midlands, England, there is quite a scandal. Authorities are investigating whether a fire chief lied about his studies to get the job and earn 180,000 pounds sterling a year, which amounts to 3,954,785 Mexican pesos, according to The Sun.
This is Wayne Brown, the West Midlands fire chief, who won the job last year after meeting the requirements, including his advanced qualifications.
The firefighter had said that he had studied for a master’s degree in business administration at London South Bank University. However, the institution confirmed that he had no record of his title.
According to local media, Brown deleted that part of his LinkedIn profile. They also claim that he said he was a former professional footballer for Charlton Athletic. But as far as is known, he was on a youth training program at the League One club.
Wayne Brown worked for 27 years in the London Fire Brigade. He subsequently joined the West Midlands Service as deputy chief fire officer in 2019. In January 2023 he was promoted to chief fire officer following the retirement of his predecessor, Phil Loach.
Last year, a 43-year-old man was arrested over an alleged campaign against Brown, who was allegedly harassed on social media, by email and in letters.
If the investigation into his qualifications and degree determines that he lied, Brown could be charged with fraud. For now, the West Midlands Fire ServiceHe already established his position through a statement. “We are aware of the complaints regarding our Chief Fire Officer and the West Midlands Fire Service.
“Formal investigations and proceedings are currently being carried out, in accordance with the constitution of our Fire Authority, in relation to the matters raised. We will do this thoroughly and fairly. In the meantime, we will not make any further comments,” he noted.
