West Java Provincial Government applies the SKDR mechanism to prevent DHF

prevention (DHF) cannot be done by fogging because people live at home

Bandung (ANTARA) – The Provincial Government of West Java has implemented a mechanism for Early Precautions and Response (SKDR) to prevent and reduce the number of cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever or DHF amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Because at this time, we are facing a COVID-19 pandemic, this is a challenge so that prevention (DBD) cannot be done by fogging because people live at home,” said West Java Provincial Health Office Head Berli Hamdani Gelung Sakti, Monday.

Berli said that his side did not conduct fogging or fumigation to prevent dengue during the COVID-19 pandemic because it was considered inappropriate, especially at this time the public was advised to remain at home.

He explained that the SKDR mechanism was carried out in the reporting of dengue cases in the field and health workers such as midwives, paramedics and auxiliary puskesmas reported to surveillance officers at the puskesmas through a short message service or SMS.

Later, said Berli, survey officers from the puskesmas will send the data received to the district also via SMS, then the data will be entered and analyzed by the district.

“After that it is sent via e-mail to the provinces and centers using special software that can produce early warning or alert signals according to place, time and type of disease,” he said.

If in the analysis an alert or signal appears then the district immediately responds to data verification, epidemiological investigations, laboratory confirmations and countermeasures according to the situation and conditions.

“In addition, the response can also be done jointly with the health center,” he said.

He further said that another effort to suppress the dengue case in West Java was by increasing the periodic larvae monitoring officers through the 1R1J Program (1 Rumah 1 Jumantik).

Then by eradicating mosquito nests by the 3M method that is first draining or cleaning places that are often used as water reservoirs such as bathtubs, water buckets, drinking water reservoirs, refrigerator water reservoirs and others.

Secondly close the water reservoirs such as drums, jugs, toren water and reuse or recycle used goods that have the potential to become breeding places for mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever.

“We also urge to sprinkle larvicide powder, better known as abate powder, in water reservoirs that are difficult to clean,” he said.

Meanwhile, West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil Barat said that dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) must be watched by all parties.

The number one person in West Java Province has reminded all citizens to eradicate mosquito nests (PSN) and also run a healthy and clean living program.

“Hopefully the community will be more concerned about maintaining personal hygiene and the environment in order to avoid disease,” he said.
