TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil with his wife Atalia Praratya brought his youngest son Arkana Aidan Misbach, 4 years old, to follow polio immunization at the Polio Immunization Sub Week (PIN) at Posyandu Hapsari Melati 2, Warung Muncang, Bandung City, Thursday, April 6 2023. Ridwan Kamil dripped the polio vaccine himself into the child’s mouth. “Earlier I personally vaccinated against polio drops to Arkana,” he said, quoted from his statement, Thursday, April 6, 2023.
Sub PIN was carried out simultaneously in West Java for the first phase from April 3 2023 to April 15 2023. The second phase will begin May 15-17 2023. The vaccination target is aimed at toddlers throughout West Java to anticipate the spread of polio after 1 case of infected toddlers was found polio in Purwakarta.
Ridwan Kamil invited parents to bring their toddlers to the posyandu to receive polio immunization to prevent the spread of the polio virus. “Don’t let this virus spread and become a pandemic, It immediately take the child to the nearest posyandu,” he said.
Ridwan Kamil asked West Java residents to be aware of the spread of the disease during Eid al-Fitr, where in the tradition of friendship physical contact between children is inevitable and has the potential to transmit polio. He asked all regional officials, starting from the RT, RW, Lurah, and Village Heads as well as community activists, to comb toddlers in their environment for polio immunization.
“To RT, RW, village heads, village heads, sub-district heads, regents, mayors and community activists, let’s invite all toddlers in their neighborhood to get the polio vaccine,” said Ridwan Kamil,
The target of Sub PIN in West Java is 3,984,797 children in the age range 0-59 months. Immunizations were carried out in 1,101 Community Health Centers and 52,432 Posyandu involving 311,992 Posyandu cadres. Immunizations were also held at PG (Play Group) and PAUD level schools.
