The West Jakarta City Government together with the KPA held a coordination meeting to follow up on the results of a public knowledge survey about HIV and AIDS.
The West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot) together with the AIDS Control Commission (KPA) held a follow-up coordination meeting on the results of a public knowledge survey about HIV and AIDS in the Pattern Room of the Lord’s Office, Wednesday (11/13). ).
It is known that the West Jakarta KPA together with the DKI Jakarta Communication and Information Service and the West Jakarta Communication and Information Department conducted a survey on public knowledge about HIV and AIDS in the West Jakarta area. The survey, which took place between 7-25 October 2024, produced 5,823 potential respondents who could be processed and analysed.
Representing the People’s Welfare Assistant (Adkesra) said Amien Haji, Head of Health and PPAPP Subgroup for the West Jakarta Regional Secretariat Welfare Division, Endang Tri Rahayu, based on Regional Regulation No. 5 of 2008 regarding HIV and AIDS prevention in DKI Jakarta Province, the KPA is responsible for coordinating and evaluating HIV and AIDS prevention activities at the city level including co -extensive cooperation with related departments that are members of KPAK and working partners.
KPA DKI Jakarta has an HIV and AIDS control program to stop HIV and AIDS with the goal of eliminating new cases of infection, eliminating deaths due to AIDS and eliminating discrimination.
“Eliminating discrimination and stigma, of course, requires cross-program and regional support. Because the appearance of stigma and discrimination in general is the result of a lack of knowledge on how to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS, including prevention methods, “he said.
Therefore, it is necessary to continue with Endang, to increase knowledge about dealing with HIV and AIDS by providing counseling or access to the levels of Regional Organizations (OPD) and the community.
Previously, the Secretary of West Jakarta KPA, Soekarno, said that HIV cases in the West Jakarta area were increasing. The average increase is 1000 people per year infected with HIV.
“Of course, this is a concern for West Jakarta KPA, which always provides education or outreach to the community. Meanwhile, the West Jakarta Health Sub-Division provides treatment. However, the spread of HIV continues to increase,” he said.
At this time, the West Jakarta KPA still found stigma and discrimination from the community towards people affected by HIV. They are often reduced, no one approaches them, some are even thrown out of the environment.
“The final problem (stigma) is the result of people’s ignorance and knowledge about HIV and AIDS. So this stigma often happens in the community,” explained the former deputy mayor in Jakarta the West.
In this coordination meeting, Soekarno, West Jakarta City KPA followed DKI Jakarta Communication and Information Service and West Jakarta Communication and Information Department to survey public knowledge about HIV and AIDS targeting 380 respondents from each sub-district.
“However, the respondents were submitted over the target. There were sub-district respondents with numbers 900, 400, 700 and so on. Of the total target of 3067 respondents, e number of respondents submitted 5283 respondents and respondents outside West Jakarta were 109 respondents.
“From the results of the study, we can study, for example, what measures the West Jakarta City Government is taking to reduce the cases of HIV transmission in West Jakarta,” he said.
At the same time, the Data and Statistics Executive for the Communication and Information Department of DKI Jakarta, Purwo Sucahyadi, explained the results of the study on the knowledge survey about HIV and AIDS in the West Jakarta area.
