West Ham vs Chelsea: Werner Wins The Blues

Chelsea get satisfactory results in order to chase the ticket Champions League. This was after the Blues won 1-0 over West Ham United through the goal Timo Werner.

At the match West Ham vs Chelsea which was held at the London Olympic Stadium, Saturday (24/4/2021) early morning WIB, Chelsea appeared dominant with 55 percent ball possession and made 17 attempts, six on goal.

Meanwhile West Ham only made two attempts on target out of a total of nine attempts. Werner’s only goal in the 42nd minute also cemented Chelsea in fourth place with 58 points, three ahead of West Ham in fifth and four points from Liverpool in sixth.

The course of the match

Chelsea played aggressively from the early minutes and did not give West Ham the opportunity to develop the game. Chelsea, which relies on Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount, always presses the West Ham defense.

The hosts just couldn’t get the firing space Jesse Lingard and Tomas Soucek needed. However, Chelsea had difficulty creating clean opportunities against Lukas Fabianski.

It was only in the 42nd minute that Chelsea was able to score a goal by Werner. A quick counter-attack that started by Werner and ended at the feet of Ben Chilwell on the left, who immediately sent a bait to the front of goal.

Free Werner easily cheated it into Fabianski’s net. 1-0 score lasted until halftime.

Chelsea let West Ham take the initiative to attack early in the second half, but they pushed the defense closer together so it was difficult to penetrate. Chelsea even almost doubled the lead in the 54th minute.

Mount shoots from outside the area and forces Fabianski to scramble to the ball. Werner who was in front of the goal snatched the rebound but still wide.

West Ham got their first shot on of this match through Pablo Fornals in the 57th minute, but the ball was right in Fabianski’s arms. Likewise with Lingard’s speculative shot from outside the penalty box, but still wide.

Fabianski had to fly in the 62nd minute to ward off Mount’s shot from far enough away. Four minutes later, Fabianski also blocked Werner’s left-footed shot at the near post.

West Ham’s efforts to catch up with the laggards are getting heavier after losing Fabian Balbuena in the 80th minute to a red card. After the referee saw the VAR, Balbuena was deemed to have stepped on Ben Chilwell’s foot when throwing the ball.

Until the match West Ham vs Chelsea, the score lasted 1-0 to win for the visitors.
