When speaking to the media ahead of this afternoon’s fixture against Leicester City, West Ham United boss Skinner said that her side have reacted well and that they are motivated to bounce back.
“It was a really tough one to take,” Skinner said. “Everyone is working so hard to improve the scores, the results and the points.
“We played well, so from a performance perspective, when you know you’ve done a load of good stuff and something like that happens, it’s the tough part of football.
“Emotionally, it takes a bit of time to come back down off that, but we are determined; everyone is motivated to put that right this weekend. We have been able to focus on the grass, put it behind us and move forward. We have trained positively this week, so that’s a good sign.”
This afternoon’s opponents Leicester City have also had a tough start and Skinner says that her side see the game as one that they can win.
She said “We feel positive that we can get something from every game, we just need to get one over the line. We have picked up a couple of good points but it is important that we just keep chipping away at that.
“Confidence in the team is good but it changes the landscape when you get more points. Goals change things and I think we need to get a few more of them as well, that’ll help us move in the right direction.”
West Ham United have lost just two of their last seven Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures at The Chigwell Construction Stadium and Skinner is looking forward to returning home.
She said “It’s an opportunity to get in-front of our fans again. We’ve had some fantastic support in a lot of our away games, but being back at home, the way that we’ve been applying ourselves in games, is something that we want all of our fans to see live. The positive attacking play is definitely something that raises the fanbase and gives them things to cheer on. We are looking forward to it.”
