West Ham (5th) squandered a three-goal lead against Arsenal (9th) and equalized (3-3) which slows down their European ambitions, this Sunday in a match on the 29th English day, while in a delayed duel the Tottenham (6th) beat Aston Villa (10th) 2-0.
With a victory, the Hammers would have equaled Chelsea on points, fourth and last classified for the next Champions League. Now they are two points behind the Blues, who have 49 units.
Arsenal win a place and are ninth, seven points behind their opponent of the day.
Shortly after half an hour of play, the game seemed decided, with West Ham leading 3-0.
With the impulse of Jesse Lingard, excellent since he was loaned out by Manchester United in the January market and was called up by the national team this week, the Hammers thrashed.
Lingard opened the scoring in the 15th minute, before taking a quick free kick for Jarrod Bowen, who made it 2-0 (17).
Midfielder Tomas Soucek made it 3-0 in the 32nd.
Starting as a center forward, Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette finished off a ball deflected by Soucek, who scored his own goal, to reduce differences (38).
With the Norwegian Martin Odegaard in command, Arsenal returned in the second half ready to complete the comeback.
Craig Dawson deflected a Calum cross at game time to make it 3-2 and Lacazette finally pushed a perfect pass from Nicolas Pepe (82) to seal a tie that did not suit either team.
Also in the fight to reach the Champions League, now with a point less than West Ham, Tottenham achieved a victory against a direct rival in a postponed match of the 18th date that serves to digest the elimination in the eighth of the Europa League of the Thursday in Zagreb (2-0, 0-3 after extra time).
The players led by José Mourinho are sixth, three points behind the Champions zone, a priority objective for the Portuguese coach.
Aston Villa loses the lead car when they had a game postponed to continue fighting for Europe.
Tottenham went ahead with a wall between Lucas Moura and Harry Kane, with a back pass for Carlos Vinicius to score (29).
A penalty awarded to the Spurs in the second half served the Spurs to make it 2-0 through Kane (68).
