Bowen opened the scoring two minutes before the end of the first half with a header. The England striker scored his 16th league goal in his 200th game for West Ham. Robertson erased the home team’s lead two minutes after the break. In the 65th minute, Liverpool took a corner kick, the rebound went to Gakpo, who volleyed home. His shot gradually bounced off Ogbonnna, Souček and goalkeeper Areola all the way to the goal line. The “Hammers” eventually won at least a point thanks to Antonio’s equalizing goal in the 77th minute.
West Ham have not won for the third time in a row and are five points out of eighth place in the cup standings. Sixth placed Manchester United, who drew 1:1 at home with Burnley, played a game less.
Newcastle United beat Sheffield United 5-1 at home to seal the visitors’ relegation from the Premier League. Alexander Isak scored twice, Guimaraes and Wilson added one goal each, and Osborn scored an own goal. Sheffield only spent one season in the top flight.
Aston Villa squandered a two-goal lead at home and drew 2-2 with Chelsea. The visitors trailed by two goals at half-time after McGinn’s shot was tipped into his own net by Cucurella in the fourth minute and Rogers added a second just before the break. At the break, home goalkeeper Martínez had to be replaced by Olsen due to an injured hamstring, who was unable to prevent Madueke’s goal in the 63rd minute or Gallagher’s wonderful equalizer in the 81st minute. Chelsea could even turn the game around in the set-up, but Disasi’s goal was ruled out as a foul by the video referee after review.
Fourth-placed Aston Villa are seven points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham, but Hotspur have played three games less. Chelsea is ninth and six points behind in the cup standings.
In Manchester, the score did not change until the 79th minute, when Antony took advantage of a mistake in the visitors’ play and netted his first league goal of the season. However, the “Red Devils” could not keep the lead. In the 86th minute, goalkeeper Onana, while trying to box out a high ball, hit striker Amdouni in the face, who subsequently converted the awarded penalty himself. United are one point ahead of seventh-placed Newcastle.
Everton beat Brentford 1-0 at home thanks to Gueye’s goal and secured their participation in the Premier League for next year as well. Sean Dyche’s men won for the third time in a row and lost just once in the whole of April.
