West Ham boosted by full extent of Michail Antonio’s injury

West Ham have been boosted by news that Michail Antonio’s knee injury is “not as serious” as first feared.

According to The Athletic, the 33-year-old sustained the issue during Jamaica’s CONCACAF Nations League defeat to Canada last weekend.

It was expected that Antonio faced a potentially lengthy lay-off for the Hammers after featuring in all 12 of their opening Premier League games.

But scans have revealed that the forward only suffered a ligament strain which is now expected to sideline him only for the next month.

His short-term absence still poses problems for David Moyes’ side with only Danny Ings and teenager Divin Mubama available for the central striker role.

However the Athletic also claim that the West Ham manager could deploy winger Jarrod Bowen as an auxiliary no.9 during Antonio’s spell out.
