West Bromwich Albion is in talks to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea. The 22-year-old, who can play both midfield and defense, spent last season on loan at Lorient in Ligue 1.

Squad changes after relegation
West Brom are undergoing changes to their squad after relegation from the Premier League in 2020/21. Veterans Kieran Gibbs, Lee Peltier and Branislav Ivanovic have left. In addition, several players from his Premier League team were on loan. Midfielders Conor Gallagher, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Okay Yokuslu have returned to their parent team. Rekeem Harper and Hal Robson-Kanu have also left.
His only recruits so far have been midfielder Alex Mowatt and defender Matt Clarke. Mowatt, who was part of the losing side in the promotion play-off semi-final against Swansea, left Barnsley at the end of his contract, while Clarke joins on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion after spending the last two seasons on loan at Derby County.
Free transfer to Chalobah
Trevoh Chalobah is a product of the Chelsea academy, as is his older brother and current Watford player Nathaniel Chalobah. He spent the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons on loan to the Ipswich Town and Huddersfield Town championship teams. Last season, he joined Lorient in Ligue 1 and was part of the team that scored a surprising 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain.
Competition in places is very high at Chelsea, both in midfield and defense. He is ready to move in now. Chelsea will reportedly not demand a transfer fee despite having two years left on their contract. This could be a direct result of the economic climate affected by the pandemic. However, there will be other clauses in the contract, with the possibility of a buyback clause or, more likely, a sell clause.
Chalobah is also wanted by Lorient and the newly promoted Brentford team.
