Kolkata. West Bengal Congress spokesperson Kaustav Bagchi was arrested from his residence on Saturday morning for allegedly making remarks against CM Mamata Banerjee. Giving information, a senior police officer said, ‘A large team of the city’s Burtola police station raided Bagchi’s residence at Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal at around 3.30 am and arrested him. Last Friday, a complaint was lodged against Bagchi at the Burtola police station for his alleged remarks about the chief minister.
Kaustav Bagchi had allegedly criticized
The officer said, ‘We have arrested Kaustav Bagchi from his residence in Barrackpore. We cannot talk much about it. Our officers are talking to them. Kaustav Bagchi had reacted sharply and allegedly criticized the CM and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee for personal attacks on West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury after the Congress’ victory in the Sagardighi bypoll. After his arrest, Bagchi was brought to the Burtola police station. While party workers demonstrated outside the police station.

Bagchi was arrested under various sections
He told that a case has been registered against Bagchi under sections 120 (B), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code. Let us inform that Congress candidate Byron Biswas defeated TMC candidate Devashish Bandyopadhyay by a huge margin of 22,980 votes in the Sagardighi bypoll. Although Mamta Banerjee has accepted the defeat. But also accused Congress of unethical alliance with BJP.
BJP transferred its vote share to Congress – Mamta Banerjee
Mamta Banerjee had said that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary has already said that the Left-Congress and BJP are working together. Good thing he accepted. I don’t hold anyone responsible for this defeat. But an unethical alliance has happened. We condemn it. If we see the vote share of BJP, it is known that they have transferred their vote to Congress. On one side Congress-Left alliance and on the other BJP’s vote transfer.
