The curtain will fall on the West Asian Football Championship (U-17), in its eighth edition, this weekend, with an anticipated confrontation between the Saudi teams and their Yemeni neighbor in the final match, scheduled for the Al-Saada Sports Complex Stadium in the Omani city of Salalah.
The Sultanate of Oman hosted the West Asian Championship for junior teams, starting on Monday, December 11, in the presence of 8 Arab teams.
The Yemeni national team reached the final of the tournament by defeating the UAE national team with a score of (2-0), in the first match of the semi-final, which was held on Monday evening, at Al-Saada Sports Stadium in Salalah.
The Yemeni team’s captain and star, Adel Abbas, scored a brace in the 54th and 87th minutes of the second half, after the first half ended in a tie (0-0).
On the other hand, the Saudi national team was nominated for the final after defeating its Iraqi counterpart with a score of (2-1) also today, Monday, with scores for the Saudi team, Tari Saeed and Abu Bakr Saeed.
The defending champion of the previous edition, which was held in 2022, the “Jordan national team,” was eliminated from the group stage after failing to compete against Saudi Arabia and the Emirates in the second group.
The first group witnessed Yemen topping and Iraq occupying second place, so that the hosts bid farewell to the Omani junior team as third in the group standings on goal difference from Iraq, while the Lebanese national team was at the bottom without any points.

When is the final date of the West Asian Junior Championship?
The final of the West Asian Junior Championship will be held on the evening of Wednesday, December 20, 2023, starting at 6:30 pm Saudi time, at 19:30 Sultanate of Oman time.
The final match will be broadcast on the channels of the Saudi Sports Company SSC, and it will also be broadcast live on the Oman Open Sports Channel on Nilesat.
