Last night, several computers worldwide were paralyzed by a hacker group linked to Russia. The ransomware was distributed via VSA software from the American company Kaseya. This software is widely used by IT service providers to remotely manage their customers’ systems.
‘Impact quite large’
ICT company VelzArt has been doing business with Kaseya since 2010. “Last night around 6.30 pm we received the first reports of servers that were no longer working. After that, we immediately took action with a crisis team. The impact is quite large. A large part of our customers are affected by it.”
VelzArt has hundreds of customers. They are advised not to turn on their systems for the time being. The VelzArt team immediately started restoring the customer situations last night.

Ransom demanded up to 5 million dollars
Born: “There are several reports of ransom requests ranging between $49,000 and $5 million. Those requests go to our customers, but we are responsible for the situation. We will eventually get all customers up and running again, but the question is how long it will take. It takes time.”
“The company is literally and figuratively your child. This touches me very deeply. Our customers have to move on and we do everything for that,” says Born.
Technical service provider Hoppenbrouwers in Udenhout was also affected by the cyber attack.
