“I don’t feel like dating, to tie myself to someone,” says Sneijder. “Because I still have that feeling of: who knows, it will work out. That would be the best thing there is.”
Shortly after the end of their marriage, in 2019, Sneijder says he was very busy restoring their relationship. “But now I realize that it’s important to let go, and then build something up.”
The two old lovers still have “fantastic contact”. “When things are going on, I ask her for advice, or vice versa. We know each other best. That will continue when we have a new relationship.”
Sneijder hopes that something can still arise from their good contact. “I’m living well now. Maybe it will happen”, referring to a reunion with Cabau. “Or I get into a relationship with someone else. Then that’s nice too.”
‘Yolanthe remains my great love’
The former footballer would find it “painful” if the actress gets a new relationship. “But I accepted that too. I wouldn’t like it, but she wouldn’t like it the other way around either. We’ve been together for so long, shared joys and sorrows. That part of loving is still there. She remains my great love. “
Sneijder and Cabau (both 38) have been together since May 2009 and were married in July 2010 in Siena, Italy. Together they have a son: Xess Xava (7). Sneijder has another son with his childhood sweetheart Ramona: Jessey (16).
In March 2019, Sneijder and Cabau separated. “I screwed up. Several times,” Sneijder reported then. The divorce is still not finalized.
