Whether it is the metaphor of the decline of traditional European civilization in the movie “The Grand Budapest Hotel” or the future projection of Japan’s modern history in the animated movie “Isle of Dogs”, “The French Dispatch” pays tribute to the paper media for refining wisdom from the spirit of the times. The United States Film director Weiss. Wes Anderson has developed his own distinctive style of video art through his extremely symmetrical composition, retro-toned image texture, multi-layered reflections, and profound literary flavor. The meticulous visual beauty in the film is as he said: “The tiny details of everything make up everything in this world.”
In 2018, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna invited Weiss. Curated by Anderson, he carefully selected exhibits from the museum’s collection of more than 4 million items to plan a special exhibition with the theme of “Mummies and Other Treasures in Coffins.” “Wes Anderson – Asteroid City”, which will be held at the Fondazione Prada in Milan until January 7, 2024, is Anderson’s second venture into art curation. The exhibition recreates set models, original sets, costumes, props and artwork from his recently released 11th film, Asteroid City – a film set in the deserts of the American Southwest in 1955 and shot entirely in Spain. Filming was completed on the outskirts of Chinchón. Transform the language of film into a new art medium, and use the whimsical imagination of film viewing to give contemporary art exhibitions a brand-new landscape meaning, guiding you and me to escape from the standard aesthetics of works and escape into an alternative universe where imagination operates.
