The eight-time Olympic dressage champion will receive a special award at the event in Frankfurt’s Alte Oper.
The German record Olympic champion Isabell Werth will be honored as a “Legend of Sports” at the 42nd Sports Press Ball in Frankfurt/Main. At the event on November 9th in the Alte Oper, the dressage rider, who won her eighth gold medal at the Summer Games with the team in Paris, will receive a sculpture made of Meissen porcelain – and further recognition for her sporting life’s work.

Werth follows award winners such as Jan Frodeno, Magdalena Neuner, Michael Schumacher, Katharina Witt, Franz Beckenbauer and Boris Becker. The other Pegasos winners in the categories “Athletes with Heart” and “Sports Media” are yet to be announced.
In the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, Werth (55) not only won her eighth gold medal, but also impressed in the individual event and won her sixth silver medal. She thus replaced canoeist Birgit Fischer (8 gold, 4 silver) at the top of the all-time Olympic rankings.
“However, there is one aspect that also distinguishes Isabell Werth from many other world-class champions: she has been practicing her sport at the highest level for decades,” said the organizers of the Sports Press Ball. “In addition, she always maintains a deep relationship with her horses, which is characterized by trust, individual appreciation and exceptional communication.”

The motto of the 42nd Sports Press Ball, which is being organized by the Association of German Sports Journalists, the Frankfurt Sports Press Association and the Metropress agency, is all about the past Olympic Games. “Merci Paris” is the motto. In addition to Werth, other Olympic champions from Paris have confirmed their participation. The organizers are expecting 2,200 guests.
