When you watch “Werewolves” on Netflix, you immediately think of Jumanji. But a reference to a great science fiction saga also slipped into the film.
Since its launch on October 23, Loups-Garous has topped the French weekly top 10 and has even taken first place in the world in the “non-English language” category.
A big coup for the feature film by François Uzan which adapts the successful board game, Les Loups-Garous de Thiercelieux. To bring to the screen this particular universe which sees a family find themselves in a village in the Middle Ages and face dangerous werewolves, the director and his team wanted to make an adventure film for the general public. For example, it’s impossible not to think of Jumanji with its set specially created for the occasion.
A little Han and a little Rey
But this was not their only source of inspiration, as you will discover in our report below. AlloCiné was indeed able to go to the filming of Loups-Garous in Prague in June 2023 and meet the teams who participated in its design. During our meeting with the costume designer, Charlotte Betaillole, the latter revealed that she was inspired by the science fiction saga Star Wars to imagine the clothes of Franck Dubosc and Suzanne Clément.
It is thus the character of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) who served as a model for the character of Daniel and we can clearly see the inspiration with the white shirt and the blue jacket. As for Marie, the costume designer wanted to bring out her adventurous and vigilante side, by imagining an outfit close to that of Rey (Daisy Ridley).

In an interview given to Netflix, the director goes even further in comparisons and inspirations:
“With Charlotte, we had references: Han Solo for Daniel Baladin, Pirates of the Caribbean for the mother, for Jean Reno, we were eyeing Belmondo in Cartouche. Charlotte’s team also did a lot of bookish research, and m “I tried lots of different fabrics corresponding to the era. All this created a Middle Ages that was both realistic and a little pop, with, I hope, iconic outfits for each character.”
With a rating of 1.9 out of 5 on its AlloCiné profile, Loups-Garous joins the list of these popular successes which are being assassinated by critics.
