“We’re Talking! – A Film Highlighting Art, Commitment, and Politics in Neukölln”

In the film “We’re talking! Between art, commitment and politics in Neukölln” from the political and diversity-oriented educational project Mitreden in Neukölln, four people are presented who already have a say, get involved and make themselves heard in different contexts. Participation is practiced differently here: artistically, socially engaged activist or politically. What they all have in common is that they have been or have been active in Neukölln for many years out of conviction.

They also speak openly and critically about what could go differently or better in the neighborhood and where there are barriers to participation. But everyone is talking about a neighborhood that is unique and full of diversity, in which there are rough and noisy corners, but above all it is the local people who actively help shape it. Other topics that are discussed are: biography, culture of remembrance, street renaming, Afrodiasporic knowledge, barriers to participation, identity, racism, trans and queer hostility and many more.

In the future, the film will be touring through various institutions, festivals and educational establishments. In addition, a handout with discussion questions should be created, which can be used as a workshop method for diversity-oriented political education work.
