“We’re not robots” – Chelsea player complains of fixture congestion after two team mates injured

This isn’t the first time for a football player to complain about fixture congestion lately and it wont be the last. But will anything ever change? I highly doubt that.

We are now in the second international break of the season so far just 7 league games in, and with another one soon on the horizon again as well. This just adds even more games in for players to play, and having this many is just ridiculous during a domestic season on top of all the other games they have to play.

Chelsea, and other top clubs of course, have not only the domestic league and domestic cups to play, but they are also in European competitions adding in loads more fixtures.

And now Blues player Marc Cucurella has pointed at fixture congestion as the reason for two of his Spanish team mates recently going down with long term injuries.

As cited by Fabrizio Romano over night, Cucurella said in an interview this week:

“There are too many games. We’re not robots. We can see how many injuries… now Carvajal and Rodri, that’s bad.”

He is spot on here as well, and fair play to him for being the latest player to speak out about it. They are human beings after all, and greed and money is now forcing them to play more and more. And of course playing more is going to increase the likelihood of getting injured, that should just go without saying.
