What was initially a game with few chances turned into a real thriller in the final phase. In the end, Werder and Bayer Leverkusen drew 1-1.
Liberation for the Werder women: After three defeats in a row, they got their first point against Bayer Leverkusen. In front of a record crowd of 22,721 spectators in the Weser Stadium, the Green-Whites fought their way back from a 1-0 deficit. Caroline Kehrer scored for Leverkusen and Sophie Weidauer scored for Werder.
Goalless first half in the Weser Stadium
In front of a packed east corner, Roberto Pätzold’s Werkself started high and pressed. But the Werder team kept finding solutions and were able to outplay the opposing line of attack. Bayer’s Lilla Turanyi was only able to stop one of Werder’s counterattacks with a foul on Larissa Mühlhaus – and received a yellow card. Mühlhaus then had to be treated on the sideline, but she continued.
The Rhinelanders posed a real goal threat for the first time in the 23rd minute. Cornelia Kramer missed from close range. The ball continued over the goal and Werder’s goalkeeper Livia Peng did not have to intervene. On the other side, Werder’s Reena Wichmann missed the goal with a lob. There were no compelling finishes in the first half.

The first quarter of an hour of the second half was disorganized: fouls repeatedly interrupted the flow of the game. But then the game picked up speed.
First a shot from Katharina Piljic over the Bremen goal, then a few moments later Werder conceded a goal: after an unsuccessful goal kick, the ball landed at Leverkusen’s striker Caroline Kehrer. She took the shot and the ball rolled – deflected by Juliane Wirtz – into the Bremen goal. Peng could only watch the ball. 0:1 in the 62nd minute.

After the goal there was a visible jolt through Werder’s team. The team increased the pressure and created opportunities. However, Repohl was able to defuse Weidauer’s shot shortly before the five-pointer in dire need. Mühlhaus’ powerful shot in the 79th minute hit the outside post. Relief came in the 90th minute: Weidauer’s shot found its way into the Leverkusen goal at the second attempt – 1-1. It stayed that way.
The Leverkusen team hosts FC Bayern Munich in the next game, Werder has to go away to Eintracht in Frankfurt.
