Joshua Mees gave the hosts the lead shortly before the break, while Niclas Füllkrug (57th) equalized for Werder after a mistake by Holstein goalkeeper Thomas Dähne, who could not knock the ball away outside the penalty area.

Benedikt Pichler (65th) scored the winning goal for the storks just eight minutes later.
Unlucky the Holsteiner was goalkeeper Dähne – not only because of his mistake. He had to leave the field after a collision and was replaced by Ioannis Gelios (76th).
The Bremer created a few chances to score, but the Kiel were more effective and showed the more pleasing game. Even the ten-minute stoppage time did not help Werder to get a draw.

In the coming days, the decision will be announced as to who will be the head coach at the Weser and thus the successor to the resigned Markus Anfang. Former Kiel coach Ole Werner is the favorite.
