Werder Bremen celebrated their first victory after returning to the Bundesliga in a sensational fashion. Until the 89th minute, Bremen lost 2-0 at Borussia Dortmund and eventually won 3-2 (0-1).

All three scorers were substitutes. After two early wins, the BVB suffered their first defeat.
Ducksch: “Won deserved”
“After 86 minutes I wondered why we didn’t win the game because we played a great away match at Borussia Dortmund.”said Bremen striker Marvin Ducksch after the match of the sports show. “Even if in the end he was happy, for me we deserved to win.”
Dortmund coach Edin Terzic showed up after the match “Very disappointed. Not only for the defeat, but also for the match. We didn’t play well today and we can’t complain about the defeat. When you are up 2-0 until the 89th minute, it’s brutally annoying and also stupid.”
Dortmund central station closed
It was initially unclear whether the game could start at 3:30 pm. Due to a thunderstorm, Dortmund central station was closed on Saturday (20/08/2022), so the fans had huge problems getting there.
Spectators, who arrived at the stadium in time, saw Dortmund’s first goal in less than two minutes. Mo Dahoud shot the ball just off the left post from 20 yards.
A promising start that was not to be confirmed. Many fouls and technical errors did not allow the game to flow.
Kobel saves twice against Ducksch
After around 20 minutes, Werder came into the game better and also had chances. Ducksch had Bremen ahead twice, but in the 34th minute he shot too centrally and failed against BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. At 44 ‘the Swiss goalkeeper saved a free kick from the Bremen striker.
There was little offensive from BVB, but then Brandt came along. In the first half injury time, the midfielder moved from right to center and chased the ball powerfully from 18 meters with the left and bottom right corner (45 + 2) and gave Dortmund a flattering advantage at the ‘interval.
Bremen calls for sanctions
Werder bravely came out of the interval and took control of the game from the 50th minute. In the 55th minute, Bremen called a penalty after the ball caught Mats Hummels in the penalty area. As Hummels had supported himself with his arm on the ground, referee Florian Badstübner’s whistle was silent.
But Bremen also had a chance. Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck saves desperately against Anthony Jung, ready to score (59 ‘), then Kobel saves again on a direct shot from Ducksch (60’).
As a result, Dortmund invested even more forward, but initially without coming to dangerous conclusions. It was almost logically a standard situation to make the decision. After a corner, the second ball lands in front of Guerreiro’s feet. The Portuguese shot a powerful shot from 25 meters, Pavlenka saw the ball late and was helpless (77th). It was Dortmund’s second shot that went straight into the goal – and the second goal.
Bremen reverses the game
Werder looked defeated and regained hope in the 89th minute. Kobel blocked a ball forward, Buchanan switched the fastest and hit the top right corner to connect. And that’s not all. In the third minute of injury time, Amos Pieper crosses into the penalty area, where Schmidt heads for the equalizer.
But it got even crazier: just a minute later, BVB lost the ball in midfield. Weiser quickly played with Burke, who effectively led Bremen to victory (90 + 4).
