Werder Bremen is planning a so-called spit protection in the guest area of the Weser Stadium as a reaction to the pyro incidents during the game against FC Bayern Munich. “This will be the first measure that we will implement after the summer break,” said Managing Director Tarek Brauer “buten un binnen” from Radio Bremen.
Specifically, according to information from the regional magazine, the planning should involve a fireproof sheet or pane that is attached below the guest block. In this way, the Bundesliga club wants to prevent parts of the pyrotechnics from falling or stadium visitors sitting underneath being splashed with liquids.
Werder Bremen: relocation of the guest block possible
In addition, the club is thinking about relocating the guest fan area. However, a redesign would present the club with some financial and infrastructural challenges. At the last home game of the season in the Weserstadion against 1. FC Köln on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky), a few rows below the guest area should be released as a measure.

Since the renovation of the stadium, the guest area has been in the upper tier of the west stand, which always causes trouble for the spectators in the tier below. In the home game almost two weeks ago, Bayern Munich supporters set off so much pyrotechnics that parts of the lower tier were temporarily cleared for safety reasons. Bremen then offered the affected stadium visitors a refund of the ticket costs. (dpa/dv)
