Werder Bremen: Marvin Ducksch about ex-club FC St. Pauli

The story of his short time at FC St. Pauli has long since been told. Marvin Ducksch did not feel at home at Millerntor after coming from Borussia Dortmund’s second-choice team in the summer of 2016. Half a year later the chapter was already over. Bremen’s top scorer is now 28 years old, thinks of his time on the Elbe with a healthy distance and without resentment and is full of anticipation for the top game on Saturday at his old place of work.

468 minutes, spread over twelve games with a total of two goals: Ducksch didn’t do well at the start of the 2016/17 season, and St. Pauli didn’t do well. The loan to the then third division club Holstein Kiel, which he shot for promotion, was the logical consequence after only half a series.

Marvin Ducksch about his six months at St. Pauli: “I didn’t have a good time”

“Every now and then I still look back, I didn’t have a good time,” Ducksch candidly admits. It’s been much the same for his last remaining friend from the old days, Christopher Avevor, for far too many months. “I’ve always kept in touch with Jackson, but unfortunately that has lapsed a bit in the last few weeks,” explains Ducksch, who is suffering with St. Pauli’s long-term injury: “I don’t even know how he’s doing now. But the boy also has other problems than keeping in touch with me.”

Despite the few positive memories, Ducksch is far from putting his former employer in a bad light. “Great club, great city, great fans,” he says in reference to the Kiezklub. “The team is one of the strongest in attack in the league. When you see the old guys, you get along very well. For me, St. Pauli clearly belongs in the Bundesliga. It’s going to be a great game on Saturday!”

Marvin Ducksch particularly likes to score against his former clubs

One where you can almost set the clock by the time he hits. Ducksch doesn’t really have a thing for statistics, he wasn’t even aware that in the previous six games against Braun-Weiss he had scored a slim four stalls. “But I’ve heard before that it’s apparently going against my ex-clubs for me,” he says with a smile. And he wouldn’t mind – oh wonder – if the story had a sequel.

However, that is just as little motivation for him as the fact that he would set his personal goal record with his next goal. “But I don’t need them either,” emphasizes Ducksch. “I’m hot and I really want to win the game. Regardless of whether I score or not.”
