Werder Bremen – For Hansen-Aarøen: Full throttle for friendly matches instead of international match brakes | Sport

He was one of the bright spots in Werder’s bumpy preparation, but now he’s flying under the radar – Isak Hansen-Aarøen (20).

The young Norwegian was still involved in the training camp in Zillertal. It looked as if he could develop into a serious alternative in the professional squad this season. But so far he has not played a single minute in competitive matches, and Hansen-Aarøen was not even in the squad against Mainz.

Professional boss Peter Niemeyer (40) tells BILD: “Isak has been here a little longer now and has to continue to work on himself in order to reduce the gap to the others.”

The best way to do this is through match practice, which Hansen-Aarøen is currently only gaining in the Norwegian U21 national team.

Niemeyer: “It’s a bit of a bummer for him that he keeps missing the international break because of his call-up to the U21s. He doesn’t get into our routine during these breaks and can’t show what he can do in friendly matches. He could also gain match practice with us during this time.” In other words: Better to go full throttle in friendly matches than to slow down in international matches!

The Werder professional is a regular in the junior team and always puts in good performances. Should he still stay with his Bundesliga team in October (7th to 15th)?

“It might be an idea to stay in Bremen,” said Niemeyer. “But of course it is an honor that he can play for his country, I can understand that.”

For the 1.70-meter-tall man, it’s not just the interaction with his colleagues that’s important, but also “his body, of course,” says Niemeyer. He needs to improve – and can take a colleague as an example.

Niemeyer: “Romano Schmid (1.68 meters, ed.) is a good role model. He has a lot of assertiveness on the pitch.” The Austrian had similar difficulties to Hansen-Aarøen in the past, but was able to compensate for his size with strength. Niemeyer: “We also believe in Isak.”
